NEW ALBUM BY DAVID ALVAREZ & EVER FONSECA
Cuban musician David Alvarez and painter Ever Fonseca have just released their new CD in Havana. Titled “Privilegios de Origen,” “Privileges of Origin,” the new CD is influenced by traditional Cuban rhythms like Son, pilon, and boleros, with influences from trova. It pays homage to traditional Cuban country music and surprisingly most of the musical composition was done by Cuban painter Ever Fonseca, and not musician David Alvarez. Both of which were born and raised in the city of Manzanillo, in Cuba’s Granma province.
“The music on the album is beautiful and fresh. It is not complicated music. The creation of the album’s fifteen songs flowed naturally without effort, it is simple and easy to listen to.” “The accompanying DVD and documentary showcase Ever Fonseca’s talent as a painter and includes the participation of his son Carlitos Ever Fonseca, Gloria Ochoa, and Pablo Milanes,” stated David Alvarez.
The unusual collaboration between a musician and a painter on an album captures the poetry created by painter Ever Fonseca with the help of David Alvarez. Featured guest performers on the album include Beatriz Marquez, Pablo Milanes, Luna Manzanares, and pianist Rolando Luna. Produced alongside the CD were a DVD and documentary which cover Fonseca’s career as a painter and showcase his work.
