JUNE 2018 HAVANA EVENTS
June is hot Cuba, so pack accordingly. The summer is already going strong, but June usually means an increase in daily rain and humidity. Here are a few events that are scheduled for the month, any of which would make a great addition to a tour of the island, so you can comply with the people-to-people regulations.
June 15-18 Ernest Hemingway International Conference; the 16th annual Ernest Hemingway International Conference will take place at the author’s one-time Havana home, La Finca Vijia, in Havana’s San Francisco de Paula neighborhood. The event brings together experts and fans of the great American author and is sponsored by the Cuban National Council of Cultural Heritage and organized by Ada Alfonso Rosales.
June 15-18 Havana Caribbean Film Festival; the 9th edition of this biennial Festival is dedicated to French, English, and Spanish language films produced in the Caribbean, and is produced by Cuba’s ICAIC.
June 26-30 Havana Choral Singing Festival; both Cuban and international Choruses participate in this acclaimed festival, which this year will be dedicated to choral singing and composing. It is sponsored by the Cuban Institute of Music and the Cuban National Concert Music Center, and will be celebrated in Havana’s National Theatre, the beautiful Basilica of St. Francis of Assis, and the San Felipe Neri Oratory.
Other events include Julito Padron & Cuban Feelin’ playing at Fresa y Chocolate starting at 11:00pm the first and second Friday of June, and Fusion band Interactivo at the Corner Café on Sunday nights and at the Bertolt Brecht Theatre on Wednesdays, both starting at midnight.
