SALT WATER FLATS GRAND SLAM IN CUBA
Captain Greg Vincent is doubtless one of the best fly fishing experts and guides in the world. Since he was a child he has been involved in sports fishing, and especially in fly fishing. Originally from Wales, he has spent the better part of his life in the Caribbean, from the Cayman Islands to The Bahamas, where he resides and owns a business. I have known him since 1998 when he first came to Cuba, having been invited by the Ministry of Tourism. Since then I have been his guide on the island, and consider him my friend. In 2005 Greg came to Cuba accompanied by his business partner James. On our first day on the water Greg caught many bonefish, and we saw several permit. James was working with another guide, Manual Ardaz, one of first guides to work in las Salinas.
At my home, the night before Greg proposed we attempt the first Grand Slam in Las Salinas. The next day, June 26, 2005, the four of us celebrated the first two Grand Slams at Zapata Peninsula. Eleven years later Greg and I were fortunate enough to execute the first ever Super Grand Slam in Las Salinas de Brito.
Salt water fly fishing in Cuba is as good as it gets!
