STRAVINSKY’S CONSECRATION OF SPRING IN HAVANA
Cuba’s Contemporary Dance Company inaugurated last week its new choreography of Stravinsky’s “Consecration of Spring.” The opening night was May 11th with nightly performances through May 20th in the Garcia Lorca Hall of Havana’s Grand Theatre. Directed by French choreographers Christophe Beranger and Jonathan Pranlas-Descours and opening on the 110th anniversary of Stravinsky’s birth “The Consecration of Spring” performed by the Cuban Contemporary Dance Company accompanied by Havana’s Grand Theatre orchestra.
The French choreographers recreated the piece specifically for these performances in Havana with the Cuban dance company in mind. During the 2018 season Cuba’s Contemporary Dance Company will also be presenting “R=V” by George Cespedes, “Coil y el Cristal” by Julio Cesar Iglesia, “Mas alla del Polvo” by Miguel Altunaga, and “Equilux” by Fleur Darkin at Havana’s Grand Theatre.
Besides the above-mentioned performances scheduled by the Cuban Contemporary Dance Company, they also offer workshops and clinics to American visitors to the island. Either is a great addition to any tour of Cuba and a genuine American-Cuban “cultural-exchange!”
