NIGHLIFE IN HAVANA FOR AUGUST 2018
This is usually our “Things to do in Cuba” blog, but in August everything we know of is in Havana. August is marked by very warm temperatures in Cuba and almost daily afternoon thunderstorms, plan accordingly! If you’re traveling to our island neighbor here are a few fun events that you may want to add to your itinerary to “justify” your trip, and they all involve great music, Cuba's "sonic caress."
Feria de la Cultura Cubana; The nineteenth edition of the Festival of Cuban Culture and Art on the Rampa will be going on throughout August, the events take place in the Cuba Pavilion which is right across the street from the Habana Libre Hotel and just a couple of blocks from the Hotel Nacional. Activities are held on weekends from 10am to 6pm, with a few night concerts thrown in, and include art, live music, dance, and crafts.
Bertolt Brecht Theatre/Cultural Center; Bertolt Brecht is a great venue for partying with Cubans, the crowd is usually close to 100% Cuban, with just a handful of foreigners in the mix. On Wednesday nights Interactivo plays, and Saturdays in August the place hosts performances by either Telmary or Cimafunk. Cimafunk draws a large crowd of young Cubans and the place fills up. The music starts late, usually around midnight.
Jazz Café Vedado; At the Jazz Café in August you will discover the world of Cuban jazz. On Tuesday nights it’s Ruy Lopez-Nussa and on Friday and Saturday night it’s Cesar Lopez & Habana Ensemble. Both are great! The Jazz Café is the one in Vedado, right across the street from the Melia Cohiba Hotel in the Galerias Paseo Mall.Have fun, remember Havana is probably the safest capital city in all Latin America, and if you’re listening to music all the time it will be difficult for you to suffer a “sonic attack!” See you there!
