SUMMARY AUGUST 8-AUGUST 12, 2018
Cuba’s 58th National Baseball Series started August 9th, 2018 with the game between reigning champion Granma and Las Tunas. Granma dominated the three game opening series, and we’ll see in the coming weeks if they’ll be contenders for the Cuban baseball championship for the third straight year.
The Havana Industriales swept rival Isle of Youth over the weekend at home in a 3-game series. One of the games ended when the Cuban Baseball National Series “slaughter house” rule went into effect with Industriales leading Isle of Youth 11-0, and the game ended in the 7th inning. The Industriales scored a total of 29 runs in the 3 game inaugural series. The Industriales are being managed this year by Cuban baseball legend Rey Vicente Angalda, who played for Industriales and led the league in stolen bases several years during his brief career as a player. Anglada has returned as the Industriales’ skipper for this one season, he has previously led the team to National Series championships and has also managed the Cuban National Team. Havana fans are looking forward to another championship year with the “Blue King,” at the helm.
Villa Clara’s new manager Eduardo Paret started the season with his team swinging and won the three inaugural games against rival Holguin. Stay tuned for updates and box scores of Cuba’s 58th National Baseball Series.
