LITZ ALFONSO DANCE IN HAVANA
CHOREOGRAPHER LITZ ALFONSO DANCE COMPANY
The Litz Alfonso Dance Company debuted its latest spectacular at Havana’s National Auditorium this past Thursday, August 9th, 2018. The show titled “Vibra Cuba” included flamenco, ballet, Spanish rhythms and Afro-Cuban beats. The choreography is inspired by Cuban music from the 1950s until today, and includes rumba, conga, chachacha, boleros, jazz, and rock-n-roll. The August 9th was a night of heavy rains in Havana, but the difficulty of getting there was worth the effort. The first dance of the night was titled “De Tierra y Aire,” “Of Land and Air,” and from there the choreography covered the past seventy years of Cuban dance and music. The Afro-Cuban dances were the best received by the spectators, who gave several standing ovations. Invited guests included pianist Pedro Sureda and guitarist Carlos Ernesto Varona.
Litz Alfonso is the choreographer behind the video of the Enrique Iglesias, Gente de Zona, and Descember Bueno hit “Bailando.” She stated that the number one inspiration for her art is the fusion that has always characterized Cuban music.
