VIENGSAY VALDES IN TOKYO
VIENGSAY VALDES AT TOKYO BALLET FESTIVAL
Cuba’s premier ballerina Viengsay Valdes represented Cuba at Tokyo’s 15th Ballet Festival which began on July 27th, 2018. The event brings together the leading ballet dancers from around the globe, and this year took place at Tokyo’s Bunka Kainkan Theatre. Valdes performed “Muñecos,” a Cuban piece choreographed by Alberto Mendez. Her partner at this year’s festival was Brazilian dancer Daniel Camargo, lead dancer of the Danish National Ballet. The piece was awarded the prize for choreography at the second Tokyo Ballet Festival in 1978.
This year the Tokyo Ballet Festival, which is held every three years and brings together the world's premiere dancers, included the participation of Tamara Rojo, Daniil Simkin, Polina Semionova, Alicia Amatriain, Leonid Sarafanov, Alina Cojocaru, Marcelo Gomes, Alessandra Ferri, Dorothee Gilbert, Mathieu Ganio, Maria Kochetkova, Isaac Hernandez, Friedemann Vogel, Roberto Bolle, and David Hallberg.
