CUBA'S BEST WATERFALLS
Though Cuba is internationally famous for its beautiful beaches and colonial architecture, the island is home to some spectacular waterfalls. At the top of Cuba’s most beautiful waterfalls list are Salto de Soroa and La Cascada Bella, both are an easy drive from Havana, and make an excellent addition to any Cuba trip.
SALTO DE SOROA
El Salto de Soroa, Soroa Falls, is in the rural province of Artemisa just west of Havana, and on the road that take s travelers from Havana to the frequently visited Valley of Vinales. The Soroa Falls are in the Sierra del Rosario mountain range near Cuba’s northern coast. The sixty-foot-high falls are easily accessible and surrounded by a pristine forest which is home to over two-hundred species of orchids which are endemic to Cuba. The one-hour drive from Havana to Soroa makes it an ideal place for a day visit from Havana.
LA CASCADA BELLA
La Cascada Bella is in the ecological preserve of Alturas de Banao in the province of Sancti Spiritus. Easily accessible from the city of Trinidad on Cuba’s southern coast and located in the Guamuhaya mountain range that offers scenic mountain views and access to rivers for those hiking through the forest. Local guides are available and there is a small motel at Jarico, and more remote accommodations are available at the La Sabina Chalet. On our last visit the fee to enter the preserve was $4 per person.
