CUBA REOPENS TO AMERICANS!
Cuba’s Civil Aeronautical Institute announced yesterday that Havana’s International Airport will open on Sunday, November 15th, 2020. The airport was closed in April in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The announcement mentions that arriving passengers must pay a “sanitary tariff” to cover the cost of individual COVID-19 Tests that will be administered upon arrival, with results due in twenty-four hours.
Some of the ten international airports on the island had reopened in September and October, but as of last year flights from the U.S. could only arrive and depart from Havana’s Airport because of restrictions put in place by the Trump administration. Only Terminal 3 of Jose Marti International Airport will be operating for now. American Airlines has five flights scheduled to arrive in Havana from Miami on November 15th.
Americans may still travel to Cuba under the aegis of one of twelve categories, which include family visits, education, journalism, religion, support for the Cuban people, professional research, and six more which are used by few travelers.
The U.S. Embassy in Havana is open to U.S. citizens in need of assistance.
