SECOND PHASE OCTOBER 26-NOVEMBER 6, 2018
CUBAN BASEBALL 2018
The second phase of Cuba’s National Baseball Series began on October 26th and runs through the end of December 2018.
Standings after the first ten days of the second phase are; Las Tunas, Villa Clara, and Sancti Spiritus are all 6 and 3, Ciego de Avila is 2 games behind, Havana is 3 games behind, and Holguin is 3.5 games behind. Villa Clara had dominated the first phase of the season, but it looks like Las Tunas is going to benefit the most from its roster supplementations.
Rooster supplementation allows teams to add five players from teams that did not qualify for the second phase, with a second supplementation of 3 players at the end of the second phase. Choosing supplements wisely is paramount to playing advancing to the playoffs. Last year Granma won the championship with a mediocre team, but great selections during the supplementations by manager Carlos Marti lead them to the championship.
There will be baseball in Havana through December, so it’s a great time to travel to Havana and catch a Cuban league game through one of our Cuban Baseball Tours.
