SECOND PHASE DECEMBER 13 THROUGH DECEMBER 27, 2018
As predicted by us in early November, Havana and Holguin are out of the Cuban National Series Baseball play-offs. Though Havana improved its record toward the end of the season and had the best winning percentage since the commencement of the 2018 National Series, it wasn’t enough to reach the play-offs. It marks the end of Rey Anglada’s last minute, one year call-up to manage the Cuban capital’s team.
Leading the four-pack playoff teams is Las Tunas, followed by Sancti Spiritus, Villa Clara, and Ciego de Avila. First place Las Tunas and last place Ciego de Avila are only separated by 3 wins. It is a close field!
The playoffs begin on January 4th, 2019, with Ciego de Avila visiting Las Tunas and Villa Clara visiting Sancti Spiritus. Both games are scheduled to begin at 5pm. On December 27th the four teams chose their three last supplement players, all took at least one pitcher, and we believe Las Tunas and Villa Clara made the best selections.
